BBC journalist, Nick, speaking with students on his trip to Benin

The 120 students of APEED and its supporters celebrated this week as their story was told as part of a BBC World Service Documentary on the people who meet in internet cafes. APEED founder Barth, made connections with supporters as they came into his place of work, an internet café. His goal was support for the students in the completion of their schooling.

APEED is a student collective for students forced from school due to financial hardship. In the last five years APEED has received support from More Schooling, the fundraising arm to APEED in Australia. It also receives support from the UK, Kenya and France. It has been forced to look beyond its own country borders, due to lack capacity to take action by local non government and government organizations. It does however have significant community support, with an adult steering committee and guidance from smaller NGOs in the town of Parakou.
