- was founded by students
- is run by students
- serves the needs of students
APEED calls to action its members - primary and secondary school students - in pursuit of the right to education. Their specific needs having arisen through the loss of both or one parent and the subsequent financial hardships that affect a family. These hardships mean that the students of APEED are not able to access the education system through financial disadvantage. APEED helps bridge this gap.
APEED was established 8 years ago BY students FOR students. It has retained a consistent number of approx 120 students for the past 5 years. Collectively the students have fundraised to help pay school fees, purchase school material and establish a library. The library serves as place to learn as well as a place to come together and share common experiences.
APEED as a student group has made their needs known to the local government, local businesses and wider community in its advocacy work. Through this action it has gained consistent support from the local education ministry in partially waiving school fees for its members and established the commitment from a local group of community leaders to form a Steering Committee, this is in addition to the creation of several community based partnerships.
